While not a cutting weapon the belaying pin was also an expedient weapon of choice. You've seen them in all the movies. They are wood pins about a foot or so long used to lash lines downs. If there is ever a mutiny aboard ship, it seems these belaying pins become the weapon of choice for the unarmed rabble. The look something like a billy club.
